What are macronutrients?

Macronutrients are carbohydrates, fats, and protein. They are the three nutrients in foods that provide calories (energy). The other nutrients, vitamins and minerals, are micronutrients. They play important roles but don’t provide any calories.

What are the benefits of tracking macros?

Tracking your macros (grams of carbs, fat, and protein) is basically like tracking calories, since they are the nutrients that provide calories. This can be a very useful tool for weight loss or weight gain goals. It is also very helpful to make sure you are consuming a well balanced diet with the proper amount of carbs, fat, and protein for optimal health as well as a variety of foods to meet micronutrient needs. Tracking is eye opening and helps you learn about food composition. As long as it is used properly, it is a great tool to use for short or long term to meet your nutrition goals. It allows for flexibility, non-restrictive eating, and can even be used with intuitive and mindful eating.

I am busy and on-the-go constantly…or I hate cooking and meal prep…can I still meet nutrition goals without making major lifestyle changes?

Absolutely! One of the most important factors I consider is flexibility. I do not take a “one diet fits all” approach. I come up with realistic recommendations when considering your goals. I also offer ways around being in the kitchen cooking or meal prepping all the time. I can help you come up with easy, convenient foods that are both nutritious and balanced. This has to be something that you can stick to and that becomes a lifestyle. Everything is personalized to you, your schedule, and your goals!

Is there anything I need to do before I start?

Nope! I recommend not waiting “until the New Year”, until “things slow down” or until you are “back on track”…those are all things I can help you work your nutrition goals in to anyway. It is important to learn how to stick to your nutrition goals even in the middle of the holiday season, when life is hectic, or when you feel like “starting next week”. I require zero restrictions and can help you find balance with your nutrition. Rather than being “on” or “off” your diet depending on all the other factors in your life, we can work together to find you a realistic balance… something that fits in to and becomes part of your lifestyle!
